About The Village Art Center

The Village Art Center is an online visual art instruction website, owned by Pamela Weisberg, Fine Artist and Illustrator. As this website is just beginning to be formed, it will constantly be updated and improved.

The philosophy of The Village Art Center is to empower our students to express their best selves through the process of making visual art.

Any person who wishes to do visual art should learn the different styles that form the basics of good art. With that in mind, it is best to understand the meaning and definition of the various TYPES of art. Below is a brief description of those basic types:

IMPRESSIONISTIC
Impressionism started with the concept that atmosphere could be expressed the best by using unbroken colors (not mixed with black or white) and to place the color dots side by side, because the eye connects them altogether and gives one impression.

REALISTIC
The representation in art of objects, actions, or social conditions as they actually are, without idealization or presentation in abstract form.

ABSTRACT
Abstract art can be a painting or sculpture (including assemblage) that does not depict a person, place or thing in the natural world - even in an extremely distorted or exaggerated way. Therefore, the subject of the work is based on what you see: color, shapes, brushstrokes, size, scale and, in some cases, the process.

FANTASY
Fantasy art is a genre of art that depicts magical or other supernatural themes, ideas, creatures or settings.

NATURALISTIC
Looks as though it is from nature. Natural in pose, gesture, setting and imagery.

CONCEPTUAL
Means art where the idea or concept is more important than the seen image.
